Alarm clock for the deaf
There are over 10 million people in the UK who suffer from hearing loss. A person who has hearing loss commonly finds it a struggle to wake up to an alarm clock. The aim of the project was to design a system that is more effective and user friendly than existing systems. Through research in this field and analysing audiograms, it became apparent that each individual has a specific level of hearing loss, which can affect their capability to hear high or low frequency sounds at various volumes. The Awake alarm clock is a new innovative system that allows people with hearing loss to take full control over their alarm aids. The choice of a wireless wrist piece provides the user with a silent alarm feature to minimise disturbance caused to others in the vicinity. This system is to be used in conjunction with an audiogram to optimise the waking effectiveness upon the user.
