Sterling Bank Note Redesign
In an age of devolution, can we create unity?
This concept proposal for sterling banknote design seeks to address the serious problems that come from having a multiple different note designs, whilst being sympathetic to the national pride of those countries that make up the U.K.
This set of note designs uses the four note values to celebrate the four countries of the union. These designs would then be introduced, unchanged, across the U.K.
The front faces celebrate individuals from each Country that have made an outstanding contribution to their nation. Each portrait is overlayed by a graphic which, when the notes are placed together, come together to form the union flag. Long before the British Isles were even inhabited, the U.K. was defined by its landscape. As such, a map is overlayed onto a landscape photograph on the reverse of each note.
