BiModal Floor Lamp
Changing light distribution of a floor lamp through physical interaction
The housing market boom is increasing the trend for stylish, easy-to-install homeware products. Floor lamps are a key style opportunity and adjustable light intensity is a principal means of changing the mood of a room. Existing floor lamps manipulate the direction and intensity of light by relying on a large movement of the structure, which requires unwarranted user effort even when the direction is set. The BIMODAL floor lamp is a design that subtly manipulates the light beam angle, providing the user with greater local control of light intensity and thereby inviting interaction. Adjustable beam angle is achieved by a novel mechanism that exploits interaction design principles and combining this with a unique colour-laminated main arm produces a very stylish, contemporary upmarket product.
