Adjustable meal tray
Solo is an adjustable meal tray designed for young people with disabilities which make it difficult for them to eat a meal independently. The aim of the project was to improve their confidence and independence when eating; helping to increase social interaction during meals. The tray is height adjustable and features a rotating top for easier positioning of food. The simple adjustment mechanism is easy to use; fixing in place at different heights and giving people the option of adapting the tray to meet their individual needs. Extra stability is provided through rubber feet on the base and the non-slip top holds plates, bowls and cups in place during a meal. Solo is wipe-clean and, with its compact design, is easily portable for use in hospitals, at school or in the home. Through collaboration with Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust there was the opportunity to meet with children with various neuromuscular conditions and gain the expert advice of Occupational Therapists. This gave a greater understanding of specific symptoms, tailoring the design to meet real life needs.
