There is increasing evidence to suggest that in order to make cycling safer, it is the behaviour of motorists that needs to change rather than cyclists, since they are the party in control of vehicles capable of causing fatalities. Presense Bike Lights are a system of two lights that work together to provide a series of warnings to drivers who encroach on the cyclists' personal space, whilst increasing the perceived size of cyclists on the road. The lights provide feedback to motorists about their distance from the cyclist in real time, utilising colour and flash rate changes as the feedback mechanism, with distances detected via proximity sensor. The product also gives cyclists an increased road presence by illuminating their body from behind, as opposed to a single rear facing light in the dark. By providing motorists with simple, real time feedback of their proximity, the product aims to influence and affect the way motorists behave around cyclists on the road.
