Alert Support System

Journeys Alert Support System aims to increase the quality of care and create a faster response time for service users that are in need of support whilst being in treatment for alcohol abuse. Relapse rates range from 80 to 90% within the first year of detoxification due to a lack of support and back contact between the keyworker and service user due to the high cost of providing one-to-one care. This system is a redesign of the current hazard system that uses a red mark to distinguish who is in need of support however this has to be kept up to date manually. Due to the keyworkers' busy schedules and constantly being on the move, this can be easily forgotten. This causes the information on the records to be either not up-to-date or no longer relevant when reviewing service users. The redesign to an automated alert support system aids both the keyworker and service user needs, providing prompt support without giving the keyworker extra work. Primary research undertaken was vital; working closely together with several addiction services to aid with decision making and provide valuable insights on the needs of both addiction service workers and the service users.
