Over 720,000 3 to 5 year old children suffer from neurological disorders in the UK alone, with the majority resulting in shoulder weaknesses. Surprisingly, there are currently no products or comprehensive procedures available for occupational therapists to assess and rehabilitate shoulder function at this key stage in physical childhood development. Taking into account the importance of exercise in muscle function recovery, Play Time is an interchangeable 'picture fill' construction toy that encourages varying ranges of vertical shoulder movement through play. By observing children using the construction blocks to fill in the missing areas of pictures of varying difficulty, therapists can effectively assess shoulder function and better carry out rehabilitation. Monitoring the child's progress through the levels the therapist can then obtain quantifiable results on individual patient development. The height-adjustable, counterbalance pulley system means children of all heights, both sitting and standing, can use Play Time.
