Active Performance Lighting
Sound Forms Plc produces high quality open-air stages, designed by architects Flanagan Lawrence in association with experts from Arup Acoustics and ES Global. Standard industry lighting products tend to look visually obtrusive and unattractive within the carefully crafted white fabric interior of the Soundforms shell. Innovative thinking has gone into the design of a prototype lighting product that is bespoke for the elegant form of the acoustic performance shell. Veil is a unique product and the design is inspired by the armoured body of an armadillo, acting as both a shroud and an interactive light. Veil covers standard stage lighting equipment, adding an element of interest to an otherwise dull component of performance lighting. A subtle, elegant, lighting effect responds to performances held on the stage, glowing in reaction to frequencies output by instruments and vocal elements. Veil can act alone interpreting a score with varied visual outcomes, or work in unison providing a consistent effect. The project is a work in progress and aims to produce a consumer ready product with customisability and multiple configurations aimed at the stage performance lighting market.
