Xylem B1 Filter Design Project

Xylem B1 Filter Design Project

Redesigning the Xylem B1 Filter

The primary issue with the current B1 filter is, with an excessive pressure differential between the inlet and outlet nozzle, leakage occurs from somewhere within the unit. By eliminating this issue, it will be possible for the B1 unit to attract a much larger market potential. As Xylem were not sure of the cause of the leak, in order to find a solution, a root cause analysis process was used to find the cause of failure in the system. Once the problem was identified, a series of initial design ideas were drawn up and compared to Xylem's design brief and the specifications for the project. Once the final design was chosen, it was further developed and analysed through quantitative, qualitative and FEA analysis to ensure the issue of leakage was solved. Thanks to the close interaction with Xylem, a successful solution, both meeting and exceeding Xylem's design brief was found.
