Losing items in the mail or receiving damaged goods is a worry for many However, for companies and individuals transporting high value, sensitive or hazardous freight, this problem is made far worse. Damage or loss associated with these shipments can lead to large economic, social and political repercussions, while sometimes having the possibility to harm or enable malicious behaviour. Specialist delivery companies exist to mitigate these risks by implementing stricter infrastructure regimes or employing specific system protocols. However, they are using the same tools as their consumer counterparts. TrackPack is a product designed for an innovative service solution. Directed towards the users as opposed to the delivers, this third party service provides stakeholders throughout the delivery process with real-time feedback on individual freight conditions. Monitoring only the relevant environmental conditions, the device is cheap and disposable. A unique paper moulded structure ensures a sustainable outer case which is biodegradable and can be made from 100% recycled materials. Furthermore, a returns scheme rewards recipients for sending the devices back to TrackPack, allowing for the electronics to be re-used which vastly reduces the environmental and economic impacts. During transit, the device monitors the freight environment and relays information to the TrackPack system. With three services available, a wide range of variables can be reviewed and the requirements of different freight types can be controlled. Impacts, tilt, temperature and humidity can all be measured and offer feedback on immediate environmental changes, while tamper detection warns service users when an item has been badly damaged or opened. It is simple, sustainable and can help companies and individuals save money.
