As a consequence of the increased benefits we enjoy from online interaction today, the real-world social communication skills of our younger generations are suffering, posing a threat to their future quality of life. In addition, the rising success of digital over traditional toys and games suggests we are now truly seeing a shift in play needs with each new generation. Aeronautz utilises the momentum of the digital trend and merges it with our inherent need for physical play, proposing an exciting new idea for the toy and games market that spans both platforms, actively encouraging social interaction through play. New theories of game mechanics have been applied to encourage players to collaborate to build experience, with each progression contributing to their own personal avatar. Adopting an iterative design process, with frequent user testing, has allowed ideas to be tried out and tested quickly, building a picture of what makes a play experience appealing. This has led to the successful development and testing of a fun interactive game that shows promising evidence of promoting social interaction amongst children aged 7+.
