Bluebird is a service designed to help get patients out of hospital and back home into their own environments. Each hospital bed costs the NHS £260 a day so getting patients home helps to save money. The project has been focused on a sensory garment, which allows patients to be monitored in their own home and the service to provide all the medical support. There are 3 million people in the UK who could benefit from developments in telecare; it is for this reason Bluebird has been created. Hospital beds will be freed up to be used by other patients, meaning that more people can be treated by the hospitals.
