TFL Cycle Hire

Power regeneration device to power a satellite navigation device for implementation on TFl cycle hire bicycles

This project examines the possibility of developing a power generation device using pedal power. It was intended that the power generated by the rider would be for powering a satellite navigation system and a possible external USB charging device, such as a smartphone. The project explicitly was to design, optimise and study implementation of a conceptual electrical device to harness rotational energy, which produces zero emissions for the Transport for London Barclays Cycle Hire scheme bicycles. The device would have the intention of being retrofitted to the existing bicycles, making the project more cost effective and, therefore, viable. A prototype would also be produced to assess viability of the concept, initial circuitry with testing results and proof of concept.
