Suspension Simulation of a Road Profile

Using a six degree of freedom Stewart Platform

The main aim was to setup a suspension rig and Stewart Platform, to enable a realistic test of a quarter car model; on a simulated road profile.

FPGA and CompactRIO were used to control the pneumatic actuators, to provide the excitation to the suspension system, and control the feedback. They have been used in several applications in the past to simulate a road profile for testing suspension systems that are passive, semi-active or fully active.

The use of these platforms is also widely seen in biomechanics studies and for simulator studies in other automotive and aerospace applications.
