Medical Disinfectant Dispenser

Improving hand hygiene behaviour in hospitals

Nosocomial (Hospital-Acquired) Infections are an issue medical facilities face worldwide, affecting 10% of all occupied or treated patients and resulting in over 135,000 deaths annually in Europe alone. The Medical Disinfectant Dispenser monitors the hand hygiene behaviour of visitors and staff to ensure that the transmission of bacteria to patients is kept to a minimum. In order for a visitor to gain access to patient rooms, the user is required to disinfect hands at the allocated dispensers. Once the hands have been disinfected, the user will place an iButton, previously received at the reception, to the 1-Wire device integrated in the Dispenser. The visitor can now use the iButton to access the patient's room for a set period of time, before hands will need to be re-disinfected upon re-entering the room.
