Turbine to accept wind from any direction and be easy to assemble

The aim of the project was to create a portable radial wind turbine that was optimised using CFD, had a suitable generator and was easily assembled from the storage configuration.

The final design was a vertical axis wind turbine with three blades connected to a hollow central rotating shaft, with a base housing the generator and stability from a fixed central shaft. The main advantage of this design is that it can accept wind from any direction, unlike the more common horizontal axis wind turbines.

The design was optimised to obtain the best aerofoil for the blades and to find the connection angle, as well as ensuring that materials and dimensions were appropriate. The turbine breaks down into six parts for transportation or storage and is easily assembled using clips and brackets to lock various parts into the operating configuration.
