Helicoptor Rotor Rig

Experimental control implementation and analysis of a scale helicoptor rig

The first part of the project was to create a beams model of the Lower Rig, which could be integrated into future simulations, and perform a modal analysis.

Secondly, the aim was to vastly improve upon a previous CAD model of the Upper Rig and to include missing elements and find suitable materials to simulate these.

Thirdly was to perform CFD analysis on an approximate model of the helicopter blades using a mesh deformation technique. The final major part of the project required the calibration of the strain gauges on the rotor blades, and programming of some data acquisition software.
