Wind-up Hearing Aid
Developing hearing aids for developing markets using wind-up technology
There is a genuine need for effective hearing aids in developing countries. Although aids used in developed countries are being donated, this solution is temporary as developing countries lack the training and facilities to keep these products running. Designing for developing countries must incorporate several important aspects which include reliability, appropriate power options and easy replacement and repair of components. This project explored possible effective design solutions to implement appropriate hearing aids using wind-up technology. It also looked into developing an infrastructure to provide new employment opportunities to communities and to deliver the training necessary to maintain the hearing aids. This project was supported by the RNID.
